We (me & @audreyimpossible) finished watching the series for the first time last night. I have stayed away from most 12 Monkeys fandom content in fear of spoilers (and seriously, you do not want to be spoiled for this show!), but now I am ready to INDULGE HARDCORE so please do what you need to do if you don’t wanna see these posts! They will all be tagged #12 monkeys.

The show ended in 2018 but I hope more people will discover it (all on Hulu!). I can’t remember the last time I was this impressed with a show from start to finish. 12 Monkeys is my new gold standard for time travel media, and flat-out one of the most romantic stories I’ve ever seen in my goddamned life.

On that note, I am slowly adjusting to the concept of having a M/F OTP. Is this… growth?!?! Ok LETS FUCKING GO

Use 1337x.to rarbg or rutracker, highly moderated public torrent trackers, because Pirate Bay has long been shut down, unmoderated, and cloned by some shady actors AND use Mullvad VPN (or any other vpn but mullvad is the best definitely) to protect your ip address while you torrent, bind it to qbittorrent and do not use utorrent anymore either because it is littered with adware.

OR if you don’t want to pay for a VPN, use direct download or streaming sites. Please y’all just take one pass through on the r/piracy or r/freemediaheckyeah mega threads to find whatever you want for free and also not infect your computer with Trojan viruses.

The real point is that you OWN a CD. You do NOT own anything digital you purchase.

Google Play stole hundreds of dollars worth of music I paid them for from me by forcing me to upload it to YouTube Music (or lose it entirely) which is behind a subscription paywall, requiring me now to pay more money every month if I want to listen to MY music I PAID for without constant advertising.

You do not own anything digitally purchased. It can be taken back from you at any time and it is fully legal for big corporations to do so for some reason.

CDs can’t be taken from you unless they come into your house or car in person to physically pry them out of your cold dead hands.

That’s why the resurgence. As funny as that person’s reply to you was, it’s not in fact because they look sexy. It’s because you actually own them.

Look- CDs are your friend. CD-ROMs and CD drives with the capacity to burn? Are your friends with benefits.

I loved being able to just borrow a copy of a video game, pop it into the handy, self-contained environment of a console, play with it to see if it was fun, and then return it or buy my own to enjoy until the disc was too fucked up to work.

You used to be able to pack up your console and play it on any TV with hookups as long as you had power. Cable’s out? Bad TV signal? Still have power? Guess it’s a video game day. The shift from selling products to selling access to products is one of the most immiserating aspects of the Great Enshitification. Under Capitalism, the purpose of any product is to generate profit through consumption, but the access-based product model makes me feel so much more like I’m the product being consumed. Especially when their platforms all bake data harvesting right in. I’m not trading my money for a thing that becomes mine, I agree to supply the manufacturer with regular income so I they don’t take away the thing I like.

I’m less and less motivated to accumulate stuff as I get older but when I do buy something, I’d prefer it not disappear when the company that owns the server that the thing exists on gets bought or sold and the new owner is sad if they didn’t get a bite at my bank account.

Subscribing to services isn’t new but the idea that subscribing to a “thing” you bought or it just doesn’t work feels more like extortion. “Keep us profitable if you ever want to listen to Pump Up the Jam on demand ever again. We’ll know if you share your password, so don’t even try it. Thanks for enrolling in autopay.”

It’s a real fuck-you to the consumer.
